MR13.  Mexico 1803 Mo FT eight reales. Reign of Charles IV. A very well struck, choice mint state 8 reales with prooflike fields and white devices. Speckled light toning. Seriously undergraded by NGC, the coin was no significant contact marks and should have be called at least a MS 64. A perfect type coin for the short-lived (1801-03) paring of assayers Francisco de Arance (F) and Tomas Butron (T).




It is especially hard to understand NGC's call on this coin, missing both the prooflikeness and the obvious choice mint state surfaces. You have to wonder whether the grader was actually looking at THIS coin. NGC's error, however, is a big plus for some collector . In just an MS 63 PL holder, it would command more than three times price we can offer it for.
